History

Brigade Enterprises Limited, established in 1986 by M.R. Jaishankar, began as a small five-member team in Bangalore, India. Over the years, it has grown to become one of India’s leading real estate developers, with a significant presence across several cities in South India, including Mangalore, Mysore, Chennai, Kochi, Hyderabad, Chikmagalur, Ahmedabad, and a representative office in Dubai. The company’s operations include property management, hospitality, education, and social welfare through its Brigade Foundation, a non-profit trust.

In the early years, Brigade established a reputation for pioneering developments, starting with Brigade Towers, Bengaluru’s tallest building by a private developer in 1994. The company followed this with Brigade Gardens, Bengaluru’s first centrally air-conditioned shopping complex, and Brigade Residency, Mysuru’s first luxury residential project. During this period, Brigade also completed its first multi-storeyed industrial complex, Brigade MM, and Brigade Regency, which was the first project in Bengaluru to receive a CRISIL rating.

By the late 1990s, Brigade continued to innovate with significant milestones, such as Brigade Software Park, Karnataka’s first private development to receive infrastructure status. It also achieved ISO 9001 certification and launched its first project in the hospitality sector, Brigade Homestead, introducing serviced residences to Bengaluru.

In the 2000s, Brigade expanded its reach and operations, achieving significant developments like Brigade Millennium, Bengaluru’s first mixed-use enclave, and Brigade Gateway, a large mixed-use development with over 1,250 apartments, a World Trade Center, and a Sheraton Grand Hotel. In 2007, the company went public through a successful IPO, further cementing its position in the market.

Brigade entered the 2010s with further expansion into Chennai, Hyderabad, and Mysore, launching developments such as the 5-star Grand Mercure Hotel and WTC Kochi. The company also launched the Brigade Real Estate Accelerator Program (REAP) in 2016, Asia’s first real estate accelerator, marking a commitment to innovation and sustainability. During this time, Brigade also achieved a turnover of ₹1,000 Crore and completed over 30 million square feet of development across seven cities in South India.

In the 2020s, Brigade continued its growth trajectory, launching several new projects, including Brigade Citadel in Hyderabad, and expanding into new areas like plotted development, industrial parks, and logistics. The company signed an MoU with St. John’s Medical College Hospital to establish a 100-bed not-for-profit hospital at Brigade El Dorado.

Today, Brigade Enterprises remains dedicated to sustainability, with a goal to achieve Net Zero Status by 2045, and continues to build on its legacy of delivering quality developments across India.
